About Me
Learning to Sit Inside This Season of My Life
For most of my life, I felt like a shade of grey.
I was born in New York and raised in the South, and even when I was “home,” I never quite felt like I belonged to one place. That feeling followed me into adulthood, along with a quiet urge to keep moving toward the next milestone — graduation, the first job, the next chapter, marriage, the life I imagined waiting ahead.
I was always preparing for what was next, rarely sitting inside where I was.
It wasn’t until I began traveling more intentionally that something shifted. I started to realize that the feeling I had been searching for wasn’t tied to a place at all. Home wasn’t somewhere I arrived. It was something I carried.
Home was me.
And if I could feel at home within myself, I could find a sense of belonging anywhere.
That realization changed the way I move through the world now. Curious. Observant. Intentional about being present wherever I am — not just experiencing what’s in front of me, but tuned in enough to notice what it offers back.
I’m now in a season of my twenties where I’m learning not to rush through this time. Instead of treating it like a waiting room on the way to marriage, family, and the life I know I want one day, I’m learning to sit inside it. To understand who I am when I’m not preparing for what’s next, but actually living where I am.
That awareness is what Mhoonlight is built from.
I realized I visit beautiful places and have meaningful experiences — not just in travel, but in everyday life — and so much of what we hear around us feels like advice, rules, or instructions for how we should live. It often feels performative.
I didn’t want to create a space that told people what to do.
I wanted to create a space that simply shares what I’m learning through lived experience.
I’ve learned that meaning doesn’t have to be forced onto places. Sometimes it’s simply about being there fully. Other times, if I’m paying attention, a place, a meal, a conversation, or a moment quietly reveals something I didn’t expect to see.
That awareness is what Mhoonlight is built from.
Here, I share my lived experiences — through the places I visit, the food I eat, the people I meet, and the perspective formed from all of it.
Sometimes that happens while traveling.
Sometimes it happens in everyday life.
But it is always shared with intention.
Lived experiences shape us in ways we don’t always have language for. This space is where I try to put words to those moments.
We’re all seeking something.
For me, it’s story.
People.
Food.
Culture.
Truth.
I’m in search of the light found in these things — the kind that brings a sense of wholeness that’s hard to explain, but impossible to ignore.
Wherever you are—bring yourself with you.
xoxo,
Emani
